Obituary of William W. Whipple Sr.
William W. Whipple Sr., 77, of Fonda, formerly of Fultonville, New York, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024 at St. Mary's Hospital, with his loving family by his side. Bill was born on February 8, 1947 in Gloversville to the late William and Marjorie (Worthing) Whipple.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. After being honorably discharged from the Marines, Bill went on to work at the Taylor Made plant in Gloversville. He also worked as a carpenter on the side throughout his career, and into his retirement. Bill was a talented craftsman and problem solver, and did many woodworking projects, big and small, throughout his life. He also proudly earned his HVAC certificate.
On August 16, 1967 he was united in marriage to Leona "Lee" Whipple, with whom he shared 54 wonderful years, until her passing in December of 2021.
Bill's loving family includes his children, Annette Kilmartin and William W. (Mabellene) Whipple Jr.; his grandchildren, Cassandra, Joshua, Tiffany, Shelby, Kelsi, and Ciara; his siblings, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Arthur) Marshall and Susan Schwabrow; his sister-in-law, Carolyn Whipple; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in passing by his parents, William and Marjorie; his brother, James Whipple; as well as by his brother-in-law, Willis "Bill" Schwabrow.
Relatives and friends are invited, and may call on Friday, June 14 from 1:00PM until 2:00PM at the Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY. A funeral service will follow calling hours at 2:00PM with the Rev. Thomas Flander Jr. presiding, with interment to follow at Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville where he will be laid to rest with Leona.
