Obituary of Richard J. Boswell
Richard J. Boswell of Amsterdam passed away on May 11, 2024, following a period of declining health.
Rich was born on December 29, 1952, to Katherine (Hutchison) and Walter Cranston Boswell, the fourth of their five children. He attended Amsterdam public schools, graduating in 1970 from AHS. He was accepted into the General Electric Apprentice Program immediately thereafter and continued to work at GE in Schenectady as manager of the Steam Turbine & Generator Manufacturing Division until his retirement in 2014. He earned his bachelor's degree from the College of St. Rose during his apprenticeship.
In 1973, he married Nadine Conn and shortly after, they purchased their home on the southside of Amsterdam. Rich was a master of home maintenance and renovation and during the years of their marriage before her death in 2018, they enjoyed many projects, long daily walks, golf and travelling throughout New England.
Rich is survived by his steadfast and supportive sister-in-law Mary Alice Hastings, as well as his siblings, Harry Boswell and his wife Betty of Endwell, NY, Carol Casabonne of Newton, MA, Janet Boswell of Brewster, MA and Christine Boswell Koscher of Simsbury, CT, as well as his brother-in-law, William Conn and Mary Alice's daughters, Carrie Hughes and Katie Hastings. Additional survivors are his nieces and nephews, David and Sally Boswell, Meg Villavicencio and Peter Casabonne, and Michaela and Brendan Koscher. Important are the many friends Rich had the pleasure of knowing from his early days growing up in the Fifth Ward, through his years at GE and through his devotion to his beloved County Line hunting camp in Wells, NY.
The family wishes to recognize the special people, aides and companions, who for several years made it possible for Rich to remain in the comfort of his home up to his final days. We are, and will always be, grateful to all of you.
His family will welcome all who wish to pay respect in his memory to a visitation at the Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Funeral Home at 171 Guy Park Avenue in Amsterdam on Wednesday, May 22nd from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A family funeral service and interment will be private.
