Obituary of Robert A. Hoagboon

Robert A. "Hoagy" Hoagboon, rode his Final Patrol on May 13, 2024.

Bob was born August 18, 1941, the son of Edward and Ada (Galway) Hoagboon. He was a graduate of Gloversville High School, class of 1959.

Bob was a 3-letter athlete in high school and followed his interest in sports throughout his life, playing in the Marine Corps Football Team followed by Semi Pro football for the Colonials shortly after its inception and coaching for many years from little league thru Semi-Pro ball. Hoagy was an avid Giant and Mets fan who instilled his love for sports in his grandchildren throughout the years.

He proudly served 6 years for his country in the Marine Corps and was deployed to Cuba in 1962 for the Cuban Missile Crisis under President John F. Kennedy. He was a proud retiree of the New York State Police where he spent 24 years retiring from G Troop.

He was a member of the Marine Corps League Detachment 787 in Mayfield, the New York State Association of Retired Troopers, the PBA, and the Florida Association of New York State Retired Troopers. He enjoyed hunting and fishing when in good health.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Walters) Hoagboon, who he married March 16, 1997; three children, Jim Hoagboon (Melanie) of Mayfield, Beth Dillenback of Gloversville, and Bridget Dean (Rhett) of Covington, LA; and a stepson, Jeff Walters (Theresa) of Gloversville. He had 7 grandchildren, Shane Hoagboon (Kayla), Derek Hoagboon (Emily), Billy Van Nostrand, Dane Dillenback, Ava Dean, Jessica Frye (Randy) and Joe Walters along with 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Patricia Achzet and Paula Sturgess along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a stepson, Mark Walters of Austin, Texas in November 2020.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, May 22nd at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Homes, 51 Fremont St, Gloversville.

A graveside service with Military Honors will take place at 12 noon on Thursday, May 23rd at Evergreen Cemetery, Martin Rd; Fonda, with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating.
