Obituary of Shirley Ferlazzo
Shirley J. (Weakley) Ferlazzo of Perth passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at the age of 87. She died peacefully at Ellis Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was born on December 29, 1936, to Ernest Sr. and Edith (Smith) Weakley of Amsterdam. She graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School, class of 1954. While she was in high school, she worked at Empire Supermarket where she met Angelo, the love of her life.
On June 2, 1957, Shirley and Angelo were married. Shortley after, she joined Angelo in Germany where he was stationed. During their time overseas, their journey began. They returned to the states where they raised three children. Shirley owned and operated a greenhouse named Ferlazzo's 4 Seasonal Garden, then worked in real estate and bookkeeping. Years later, Shirley and Angelo traveled cross country. After retiring, they moved to Ridge Manor, FL and spent their summers at their camp on Sacandaga Lake. For the last 22 years, Shirley and Angelo have resided at their home in Perth.
Shirley was a creative soul. She enjoyed making gifts for her family; her skills included sewing, crocheting, cross-stitch, embroidery and sketching. She also donated her time creating a Saint Ann tapestry for her church. Another one of Shirley's passions was gardening and landscaping, she designed beautiful flower gardens at each of her homes throughout the years. Shirley loved animals, including her beloved quarter horses. In her later years, she enjoyed playing scrabble and other games. Mostly, she loved spending time with family.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Ernest Sr. and Edith (Smith) Weakley. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Angelo Ferlazzo; their three children, Linda Ferlazzo (Frank Santoro), Michael Ferlazzo (Clare) and Christopher Ferlazzo (Stephanie); six grandchildren, Edward Proctor Jr., Kristin Proctor (Bryan Sarchi), Nicole Hale (Josh), Vincent Ferlazzo (Lauren), Elizabeth Baia (Joseph) and Brittney Ferlazzo; great grandchildren, Christian, Natalie, Leo and Lydia; brothers, Ernest Jr. (Bonnie) and Ronald Weakley (Jean).
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff at Ellis Hospital's ICU for the care and compassion Shirley received.
Funeral services for Shirley will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 2pm with Fr. Nate Resila presiding, calling hours will be held prior beginning at 12noon at the Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam. Burial will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American National Red Cross.
