Obituary of Josephine Checca

Amsterdam – Josephine Checca, 98, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 5, 2024.

 

She was born on October 6, 1925, in Utica, New York. Throughout her life, few things made her happier than laughing with her family and friends at a table filled with good food. Family and friends were what kept her strong and feeling alive, and she was endlessly devoted to them.

 

Josephine showed this devotion in many ways, including spending hours on end crafting gifts for those she loved. Everyone close to her has at least one blanket she made.

 

She was also a well of life experience and good advice, which not only helped her family succeed in life but also helped her live independently her entire life.

 

Josephine was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by everyone who had the good fortune to know her.

 

Josephine was predeceased by her husband, Mario L. Checca, who passed away on January 25, 2016; her parents Charles and Catherine Ottavio; her son, Robert C. Checca; twin sister, Chancey Favorito; sisters, Patricia Ryder & Catherine Nelli.

 

She is survived by her daughters, Carol Nelson (John) and Pauline Kretser (Bruce); son, Charles Checca, daughter-in-law, Amy Hallenbeck; grandchildren, Christopher Nelson and Bryce Kretser; daughter-in-law, Amy Hallenbeck. Nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

 

Services for Josephine will be held privately. Josephine will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Amsterdam.

Josephine’s care has been entrusted to Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam.
