Obituary of Viola A. Rickard

Viola Ada Rickard, age 91, of Charleston, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

Viola was born April 25, 1932, in Glen, NY to Ralph and Etta (Tallmadge) Boomhower.  She Attended Canajoharie school and was a lifelong resident of Charleston, NY and spent many winters at her home in Florida.

Viola worked for MCA Records in Gloversville for many years. She was a member of the Christian Church of Charleston Four Corners where she served as Sunday School Superintendent.  She also attended Church at Concord Baptist Church in Chiefland, FL and The Christian Church of Rural Grove. Viola was also proud to be a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution as a descendant of Lieutenant Samuel Tallmadge.

Viola enjoyed crafts, cooking and baking but more than anything she loved being with her family.  Viola was preceded in death by her loving husband, Millard (Bud) Rickard, whom she married January 21, 1950.  Viola is survived by her children, Linda Parker, Eris Dersch (Robert), Mandalyn Ahrens (Gary), Donna Coppernoll (Jason), Rita Sweet (David), Richard Rickard (Jamie), Robert Rickard (Amy) and Rosemarie Kaczor (Jeff).  She also leaves behind many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Christian Church of Rural Grove, 170 Rural Grove Road, Sprakers, 12166 on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.  The family will receive relatives and friends at the church from 10 am until 12 noon.  Service will follow at 12 noon with Pastor Joshua Fetterhoff officiating.  Interment will be at a later date at the Charleston Four Corners Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
