Obituary of Rosemary Meola

Rosemary Meola, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Scotia, NY surrounded by her loving daughters.

She was born on July 27,1940, in Lodi, New Jersey, daughter of the late Louis and Louise (Carabin) DeZolt.  She graduated in 1958 from St. Mary’s Institute in Amsterdam, NY.

Rosemary was married to John L. Meola, Jr. on February 29, 1960.  They shared 43 happy years together before his passing in 2003.

Rosemary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.  She worked for 25 years at Fownes Brothers & Company Inc. in Amsterdam, NY where she was a Shop Steward and performed computer/clerical duties. 

Rosemary enjoyed spending time with her family.  She loved working in the yard, attending to her flowers, reading, shopping and going for walks.  She especially enjoyed her summer beach vacations at Hampton Beach, NH and Cape May, NJ with her family.

Rosemary was predeceased by her husband, John L. Meola, Jr.; parents, Louis and Louise DeZolt; and her siblings, Maryann Prevendoski, Agnes Litchfield, Gerard DeZolt, Richard DeZolt, and John DeZolt.

She is survived by her two daughters, Cynthia Zeller (Thomas); Lynn Quinn (William); and her grandchildren, Derek Zeller, Nick Zeller, Danielle Giacobbe (Matthew), Meaghan Quinn (Justin Foglia) and her brother, Charles DeZolt (Patricia).

Family and friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 156 Main Street, Amsterdam, NY.  A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 12 p.m. with Father Nathaniel Resila officiating.  Following Mass, Rosemary will be interred at St. Mary’s Cemetery next to her husband, John.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rosemary’s memory to The Community Hospice, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.

Rosemary’s care has been entrusted to Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam.
