Obituary of Marcus W. Putnam

Marcus W. Putnam, age 99, of Caroga Lake, died Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Palatine Nursing Home, Palatine Bridge.

He was born August 18, 1924, in South Valley, NY, the son of Walter and Goldie (Hartom) Putnam. He served in the US Navy and was later employed as a conservation officer by the NYS Conservation Dept. at Warrensburg, NY.

Mark was a charter member of the Caroga Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. and a founding member of the Beer Buck and Beagle hunting club in Caroga Lake. He was an avid coin collector and enjoyed fishing, hunting and taking several trips out west.

Mark is survived by five children, Lynne Robinson (Russell), Wendy Daley (Gordon), Terry Mangiagli (John), Marcus Putnam (Christine) and Michael Putnam (Beth); ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, a sister, Sylvia Haggart; as well as a niece, Rhea Costello.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of over 52 years, Shirley (Rivenburgh) Putnam; and a brother, Gerald Putnam.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Homes, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a Funeral Service will take place 10 am Thursday with the Rev. Dr. R.W.  Williams officiating. 

Interment will take place in the spring at North Bush Cemetery, North Bush.
