Anthony Iacovone

Obituary of Anthony Iacovone

Anthony M. “Tony” Iacovone passed away on February 10th, 2024, after a sudden decline in health. His family was by his side. He was 89 years old.

Tony was born and raised in Gloversville, NY to Michael and Gabriella (Javarone) Iacovone. He graduated from Gloversville High School in 1952. An artist from the start, he eventually completed his associate degree in graphic art design at Mohawk Valley Technical Institute (now MVCC) in 1961.

In 1958, Tony married Jeanette Borgolini. The couple moved to Syracuse where Tony began what would be his lifelong career in advertising in the art department of Robuck Graphics.

Tony and Jeanette decided to move back to Gloversville in 1967 to raise their daughters nearer to their own families. They remained in Gloversville to this day.

Tony was a huge fan of Big Band Music, especially The Glenn Miller Orchestra. One of the highlights of Tony’s life was being able to take a trip to England with his family to visit a couple who ran the Glenn Miller Fan Club outside of London.  He reminisced about that trip often.

He was proud of his Italian heritage, loved Italian food (provolone, olives and Italian bread were favorites), and entertained his daughters by speaking “his” Italian, which was so different than their mom’s “proper” Italian!

He had a tremendous love for animals— from family pets to the squirrels running around in the back yard. He would talk to them all (yes, including the squirrels.) In support of his feelings about animals, he was a vegetarian for over 30 yrs.

He loved wood working, especially using his scroll saw. Many of his family members and friends received his beautiful artwork as gifts. He will live on through his art and his unique style.

Tony is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jeanette, his daughters Melina (Aaron Simek) Iacovone of Amsterdam, NY and Laura-Michelle Iacovone of Esperance, New York. He is also survived by his dear sister Mary Persico of Guilderland, NY, several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, James Iacovone.

Jeanette, Laura and Melina would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the outstanding nursing staff at Nathan Littauer Hospital (Emergency Room and Third Floor nurses.) The tremendous outpouring of comforting care and respect was appreciated beyond measure.

And, Dad, if you’re reading this, we’re going to hit that darn Take 5 if it’s the last thing we do!

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made, in Tony’s name, to the Fulton County SPCA, 117 W. Fulton Street, Gloversville, NY, 12078.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Homes, Gloversville. Online condolences to the family may be made at www.brbsfuneral.com
