Obituary of Thomas J. O'Brien Jr.
Thomas J. O'Brien, Jr., age 89, of Mayfield, passed away Tuesday morning, February 6, 2024, at St. Johnsville Nursing Home.
He was born July 31, 1934, in Providence, RI, the son of Thomas and Genevieve (Nicholson) O'Brien. He served in the US Marine Corps from July 31, 1952 until he retired on January 31, 1972. He then graduated from Utica College with a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts and was later employed by the US Postal Service in Amsterdam from 1982 until 2002 when he again retired. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church and the Polish American Veterans of Amsterdam. When he moved to Gloversville, he was an active member of the community.
Tom is survived by a son, Michael C. O'Brien (Galyna); four grandchildren, Kyle O'Brien, Angelina O'Brien, Daniel O’Brien, and Emily O'Brien; a sister, Alice O'Brien; as well as a brother-in-law, Arthur Mosher (Alvina), and three nephews, Mark Mosher (Taylor), and Paul and Peter Santurri of Rhode Island.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Audrey (Mosher) O'Brien, whom he married on October 4, 1967. Two sisters, Mary O'Brien and Patricia O'Brien also predeceased him.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 to 11 am Tuesday, February 13th at St. Stanislaus Church, 50 Cornell St; Amsterdam, NY, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am with the Very Reverend O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant.
Interment with Military Honors will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, alongside his wife, Audrey.
