Obituary of Claire Thatcher

Mrs. Claire Louise Thatcher, 87, of Amsterdam, NY, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Wilkinson Residential Healthcare Facility in Amsterdam.

Born in Broadalbin, NY, on March 17, 1936, to the late Dayton Davis and Laura Brockhum Wilson, she was a graduate of Broadalbin High School and went on to graduate from the Amsterdam School of Business. Claire was employed at Ballston Spa National Bank for several years. Later, she worked as an Executive Secretary for the New York State Department of Taxation & Finance in Albany. She was a member of the Calvary Reformed Church in Hagaman. Claire was very involved with TOPS in Fulton and Montgomery County, and she served as Treasurer for many years. She enjoyed painting and ceramics and devoted much time to making gifts for her family.

On August 30, 1958, Claire was united in marriage to Malcolm "Mac" R. Thatcher Sr., who passed away on February 10, 2005. Her loving family includes her son, Malcolm (Linda) Thatcher Jr. of Northville, her three daughters, Laurel Thatcher of Gloversville, Lisa Thatcher of Mariaville and Lynda Thatcher of Lake Placid; four grandchildren, Mary, Andi, Reed and Margaret; and three great-grandchildren, Victor, Silas and Joseph; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving is one sister, Sharon Gomula of Amsterdam.

 In addition to her parents and husband, Claire was preceded in death by her siblings: Phyllis, Mary Lou, Betty Jane, Clara, Patricia, Audrey, Michael and Burton.

Claire's family extends a very heartfelt thank you to the staff at Wilkinson, where they kept their "Claire Bear" comfortable and content for the final years of her life.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY, with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Hagaman Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Funeral Home.
