Obituary of Honoria Nieves
Honoria “Norin” Nieves, beloved Mother, went home to be with our Lord on January 3, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Norin was born on August 2, to the late Secundino Nieves Diaz and Maria Ines Figueroa, in Naranjito Puerto Rico.
She came to New York and reunited with family in Amsterdam, at age 18. She met, loved, and married Armando Pacheco and together they had four daughters. They parted ways amicably, however, remained friends until the end.
Norin loved God, her family, and friends above all else, and everyone who knew her loved her. She was a strong, spirited, woman of faith and she rebuilt her life for God and her family. She was a devout parishioner of St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam, until it closed and relocated to St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. Norin moved to Schenectady and was a parishioner of St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church, until her passing. Norin achieved her dream of an education, and her determination and dedication earned her a degree in medical administration from FMCC. Norin worked at St. Mary’s Hospital, in the Ambulatory Care Unit, ER, and clinics. She found love again and married Genera Soto and they remained lovingly married until his passing.
Norin was a loving and dedicated mother, and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved reading, especially her Bible, and everything that would deepen her knowledge and love of her faith, and really enjoyed mysteries. She loved music, crocheting, singing, and loved to play dominos, cards, and Parcheesi. Norin loved her life here, and equally loved Puerto Rico and returned, as often as she could, and celebrated her last birthday on her island.
Norin is survived by her daughters Edith (Joseph), Blanca, Vivian (Michael) and Amy. She also leaves behind brothers, Heriberto (Berto) Nieves, Jose Ignacio (Cano) Nieves, Ramon Luis (Tito) Nieves, Miguel Angel (Rafo) Nieves, Carlos Nieves, sister, Aida Luz Nieves Figueroa. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, numerous, cousins, nieces, nephews, and her special niece Rosa who was like a daughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Genero Soto, siblings, Secundino Nieves Jr., William Nieves, Tomasa Vazquez, Maria Christina Nieves, and Rosa Iris Nieves.
