There are so many amazing memories of my brilliant, meticulous, kind, witty, and very funny Aunt Dawn. First of all, she loved teaching. She spent hours drafting her elaborate lesson plans for school and, when they were done, they were a work of art in her perfect cursive handwriting. It was clear to me how much she valued her students and wanted to do everything she could to help them succeed. My Aunt's intellect always dazzled me. Her reverence for literature instilled in me a lifelong love of reading and writing. She also loved to laugh, and she instilled in me an appreciation of not taking oneself too seriously. She loved finding the humor in ordinary moments. Her laugh was gloriously unbridled and contagious. My happiest memories of Aunt Dawn are the ones where she struggled to finish telling a funny story because she was laughing so hard. She loved telling stories, and she was very good at telling them. My Aunt Dawn also valued kindness. I never saw her judge or condemn anyone. She had a real understanding of and appreciation for the whole spectrum of humanity. Being kind made her the happiest. I can only hope to aspire to her levels of unconditional kindness. My Aunt Dawn loved yellow roses. They're sunny and optimistic, like she was. And, in her last days, when she no longer had a voice to speak, my beautiful Aunt Dawn whispered words of encouragement to me, instead of feeling sorry for herself or letting me feel sorry for her. Her words of encouragement meant more to me than I can say. Thank you, Aunt Dawn, for the amazing woman you were, and the wonderful example you set for me. I will always love you.
