Obituary of Anna D'Aniello

Anna (Iorio) D'Aniello, 79 of Amsterdam, New York passed away peacefully on December 13, 2023, with her family by her side.

Anna, affectionately known as Ninetta, was one of 9 children born to Crescenzio and Esterina (D'Ambrosio) Iorio on August 8, 1944 in Casale di Principe, Provinci di Caserta, Italy. Ninetta was an avid reader and writer with a distinct penmanship in which she hand wrote the lesson plans when in school. She attended a trade school in Italy for dressmaking and designed her wedding gown. She would continue her seamstress trade in the Unites States starting with Amsterdam Glove and Chalmers and finishing her career at Belles n Beaus and The New Paris Shop. She retired to be able to be Nonna to her first grandchild Luigi D'Aniello and then added David Gerke and Antonio D'Aniello to her daily routine of spoiling them! She was an amazing seamstress, cook and baker. She wouldn't miss a chance at running to the casino. She valued Italian customs that she passed on to her children and grandchildren especially her Easter traditions and pies and Tombola (Italian Bingo) on Christmas Eve to close out the celebration of the Feast of the Seven Fishes. She was a member of the Port Jackson Women’s Bocce League, Christian Women Society and Amsterdam Literacy Program. She was a devout Catholic and communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church & St. Joseph’s since her arrival to the states.

She met her spouse Luigi 65 years ago and they married on August 21, 1966 in their hometown of Casale di Principe. Together they immigrated to the United States in December of 1966 and shared an amazing 57 years together filled with learning to speak English, traveling and raising three children, Josephine (Steve) Bailey, Esterina (Tom) Adams and Salvatore (Amanda) D'Aniello.

Anna (Ninetta) is also survived by her siblings Ralph Iorio, Dante Iorio and Rita (Iorio) Capasso, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents, her beloved grandmother, name sake and guardian Angel Nannina (Anna), sisters Lena (Iorio) Palumbo and Giulia (Iorio) Goglia, brothers Luigi , Armando and Pietro Iorio and nieces Nancy, Esta and Genueffa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday December 21,2023 at 11:00AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 39 St. John St., Amsterdam, NY, with the Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis E.V. as celebrant.  The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday prior to the Mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church from 9:00 AM  to 11:00 AM. Entombment will follow in the family mausoleum in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made to and Our Lady of Mt.
