Obituary of Diane D. Papa

 

Diane Dawn Papa of Fonda passed away unexpectedly at her home the evening of December 11, after a trying 9 month battle against Lymphoma and other ailments.

 

Born in Amsterdam, N.Y. February 20, 1954, she was the daughter of Anne S. Skandara and Donald D. Carpenter, both of Fonda.

 

Diane grew up in Scotia, N.Y. and attended Scotia schools, leaving school in her senior year.  Haunted by this decision, she returned to classes and obtained her G.E.D. diploma in 1990. In 1974, a chance encounter with a friend of her brother, Fred led her to meet her future husband, Andrew. They were wed on October 10, 1976, and had twin daughters Danielle and Desiree 5 years later.

 

Diane has been employed as a Quality Inspector at St. Thomas Leather in Gloversville and a Sales Clerk at Jo Ann Fabrics in Amsterdam. She also volunteered as a teacher’s aide at Fonda-Fultonville Elementary School until her daughters went into Junior High. She then accepted a position of Program Aide with Fulmont Action Agency WIC Program, retiring from there in 2015 after 21 years. She then became the babysitting Grandma to Jeremy Junior, and later Christopher and Isabella, until her health forced her to retire for good in the summer of 2022. Diane was also a member of Moose International, joining Women of the Moose in 1990.

 

Diane was pre-deceased by her parents; her brother, Fred Carpenter and her daughter, Danielle Papa. She is survived by her husband, Andrew Papa, Jr.; daughter, Desiree (Jeremy) Krizan of Tribes Hill, NY and their children, Jeremy Jr., Christopher and Isabella; brother, Jesse Carpenter of Tempe AZ.; sister, Terri (Scott) Dyer of Gansevoort, NY; niece, Jennifer (Richard) Paszkiewicz of Scotia, NY; nephew, Jonathan Carpenter of Schenectady, NY; and several grand-nieces, grand nephews and cousins.

 

The family would like to thank the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Town of Mohawk Fire Department and EMS, and Lake Valley Ambulance and EMS for their assistance in providing Diane aid. Also doctors Mihir Raval in Albany, Arsyl De Jesus and Karen Tedesco in Amsterdam, and the staff of New York Oncology Hemotology for all they did to help Diane with her health struggles.

 

It was Diane's wishes that services be held privately at the convinence of her family. 

 

Dianes care has been entrusted to Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville.
