Obituary of Darlene A. Barker

Mrs. Darlene A. “Cookie” Barker, 90, of Hammondtown Road, Amsterdam, NY passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side, on Saturday, November 4, 2023.

 

A lifelong area resident, Darlene was born on October 21, 1933 the youngest child of George and Hulda Nadler Menge.

 

On December 27, 1958 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Clement W. Barker Sr.  Together for nearly 65 years, they raised their family on Hammondtown Road.  Darlene was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  She took great pride in her home, and loved her floral and vegetable gardens. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

 

She was predeceased by her son, Clement W. “Butch” Barker Jr.; and her siblings, Dorothy, Bernice “Bernie”, Arbutus “Feetsie”, George “Bud”, Madeline, and Herbert “Herbie”.

 

Survivors include her husband, Clement; five children, Debbie Moran (Tom), Karen Coffey (Tom), Brenda Barker (Adil), Tim Barker (Bobbi) and Laura Canfield (Jamie); granddaughters, Jessica, Alysha, Samantha and Emily; great grandchildren; and her sister, Hulda “Dolly” James; nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family.  Burial will take place in the family plot at St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Hagaman.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org
