Obituary of Larry A. Orcutt

Larry A. Orcutt, 75, of Gloversville, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2023 with his family by his side.  Born in Gloversville, NY on January 11, 1948 he was the son of the late Bernard and Jeanette Hanrahan Orcutt.

A lifelong city resident, Larry graduated from Gloversville High School in 1966.  He started work at H&P Motors doing auto detailing and was given the opportunity to learn auto body repair. He and Dan Isabella started Dan’s Excavating. But Larry’s love of cars led him to own and operate Larry’s Autobody Shop in Gloversville for over 40 years. He continued to do all of H & P’s body work as well as other dealerships and private customers and was well respected for his excellent work and good customer service.

He also enjoyed auto racing. In his youth he raced locally in the modified division. From 1995 to 2003, he co-owned a pro stock team and raced at Fonda Speedway and other local tracks, Mark Sullivan being the driver. He loved watching NASCAR races on TV and went several times a year to races on the east coast with his family and friends. He was an avid card player and a formidable opponent playing bridge, pitch, and poker. During and following COVID, he and his wife played rummy daily.

Larry was a happy, generous individual with a great sense of humor. He told stories and jokes with impeccable timing leaving his audience in stitches. He loved his family, his career and lived a life deeply rooted in faith. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Susan V. Peck Orcutt; his three sons, Lare Orcutt, Kevin Orcutt (Emily),Lance Orcutt (Maria); seven grandchildren: Austin, Lucas, Penelope, Finley, Nicolas, Lucia, and David; one great grandson, Brantley; one brother, Thomas Orcutt (Cindy), several nieces, nephews, cousins, and life long friends, Joseph Ruggeri, Mark Sullivan, Trisha and John Isabella and members of the Isabella Family.

A Service of Remembrance will take place on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at 3p.m. at Fulmont Community Church, 16 W. Fulton Street, Gloversville, NY 12078. Relatives and friends are invited and may call prior to the service beginning at 1p.m. at the church.

Private burial will take place in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fulmont Community Church or the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville, NY 12078.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Homes, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville.
