Obituary of Jo Ann Barna

Jo Ann Clemons Barna, 74, of Austin, Texas and previously of Gloversville, New York, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 due to a chronic illness.

Jo Ann was born in Gloversville, New York to Harry and Esther Clemente Clemons on September 29, 1948. She was the second of five children and eldest daughter. She was a 1966 graduate of Gloversville High School. Jo Ann married Michael Barna in 1968 and has one daughter, Stacy Leigh.

Jo Ann enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, visiting new places, shopping and dinners out. She will be remembered as a very loving mother, nana, sister and friend.

Jo Ann worked for Coleco Industries, MCA, and Glencoe Leather while living in Gloversville, before moving to Guilderland to work at the New York State Association of Realtors. She later spent time living and working in Cary, North Carolina and Grove City, Ohio before retiring from the American Cancer Society and moving to Austin, Texas in 2010.

She is survived by her daughter, Stacy Barna; four grandchildren, Kyleigh (Derek) Koch of Pleasant Plain, OH, Christian (Kelli) Vormohr of College Station, TX, Avery Vormohr of Austin, TX and Sydney Foltz, of Austin, TX; and her three great-grandchildren, Khloe, Clayton and Jackson Koch of Pleasant Plain, OH. She is also survived by her four siblings, Harry Clemons and Bruce Gonyo of Palm Harbor, FL; Mary Lou (Brian) Belknap of Gloversville, New York; Stephen (Karolee) Clemons of Palm Harbor, FL; Timothy (Lisa) Clemons of Conway, SC, and several nieces and nephews and their families. She was pre-deceased by her parents, an infant daughter, Mary Barna, and several aunts, uncles and cousins from the Clemente and Clemons families.

Friends and relatives are invited and may call from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Betz, Rossi Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Homes, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023 at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St., Gloversville. Burial will occur immediately following mass at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown, N.Y.
