Obituary of Steve J. Samselski
Steve J. Samselski of Wilkes Avenue, Amsterdam, passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 17, 2023. He was 90 years old. Steve leaves behind Gilda, his wife of 67 years, his daughter Donna Arbige, and her husband Vinnie. He also leaves grandchildren Michael Arbige (Merilee) and Jennifer Cartledge (Dan), and great grandchildren Jason, Laina and Matteo. Additionally, Steve is survived by many loving nephews, nieces and friends, including nephew Gary Guadagno (Laura), who was like a son to him.
Steve served in the Army prior to marrying Gilda in 1956, and loved his family very much. He worked as a commercial artist, spending most of his career at General Electric. Steve’s art was well respected at GE and in the community. He enjoyed many sports, and passed that love on to his children and grandchildren. Steve continued to play golf and bowl well into his late 80s, and last year became the oldest member ever in his over 60 bowling league. As the end came close, Steve took great comfort in knowing he would soon be with Jesus for all eternity.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Lord of the Harvest Church, 27 Teller Street, Amsterdam, NY with Pastor Michael Arbige, Steve’s grandson, presiding. Calling hours will be held, prior to the service from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the church.
Burial with military honors will take place in St. Michael’s Cemetery. It was Steve’s last request, that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Lord of the Harvest Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Homes, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Please visit the online memorial at www.brbsfuneral.com
