Obituary of Felicita Rivera

Mrs. Felicita Rivera, 96, of Bunn Street, Amsterdam, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 3, 2023 with her family by her side.  Born in Lares, Puerto Rico on November 24, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Juanita Torres Guzman.

In 1953 Felicita came to the United States and moved to Amsterdam, NY in 1955.

She was united in marriage to Francisco Rivera on July 9, 1955.  They had a beautiful life together, until his passing on February 16, 1993 after 38 years of marriage.  She was also predeceased by all of her siblings; and her beloved son, David Rivera in 2019.

Felicita was a woman of great faith.  She loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them.  She was employed by Fownes Brothers for 20 years, and continued working until her retirement in 1997.  Felicita was a member of the Spanish- American Club and its Ladies Auxiliary, The Dominos Club and was of the Roman Catholic faith.  She loved to cook, play dominos, crochet, play skee-ball, watch the Spanish channel, enjoyed a good cup of coffee and read the Recorder and was an avid Yankees fan.

Survivors include her son, Frank (Madeline) Rivera; a daughter, Eunice (Fernando) Maroto; one step daughter, Milagro Rivera; four grandchildren, Frank Rivera Jr., Astrid Rivera, Francisco Maroto, and Gabriela Maroto; three step grandchildren, Maria DelToro, Angel Oliveras, and Gilberto Oliveras; three great grandchildren, David, Veronica, and Sasha Diaz; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 11a.m. at Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam with The Rev. Martin Kordel, CRL as celebrant.  Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
