Obituary of Albert R. Ellis
Albert R. “Weasel” Ellis, 91, died August 2, 2023, at the Fulton Center.
He was born September 1, 1931, to Louis and Alice (Frye) Ellis.
Albert married Beverly Jean Wilder on October 27, 1951, and celebrated 47 years together until her death on December 15, 1998.
He was predeceased by his parents, wife Beverly, brother and sister-in-law Robert and Dorothy Ellis, sisters-in-law Doris Baldwin [Price], and Edna Buckley [Edward], Betty Ellis and Susan Ellis [Donald].
Survived by his daughter Sally L. Stuart, son James A. Ellis [Sheila], brother Donald Ellis, grandchildren Adam [Mary] Ellis, Sarah Ellis [Bill Dwyer], Mary Bartholoma [Nicholas], Rebecca Town [Dean], Jason Stuart, Stephanie Reed, Matthew E. Edwards, several great-grandchildren he called his “Little Angels,” and great-great grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Member Foothills United Methodist Church [Fremont Street United Methodist] where he served as a Sunday School supervisor and was head chef for the church’s delightful roast beef dinners.
Worked as a mechanic and service manager at the former Glove Cities Chevrolet, Norvell Chevrolet, and Nelson Jones Ford retiring from Washburn’s Dairy before helping his friends at Nethaway and Sons.
Albert was a Call Fireman with the Gloversville Fire Department in the early 1970s and served as a coach in Fulton United Youth Soccer program.
A long-time scout master for Boy Scout Troop 7 in Gloversville, Albert was a recipient of the Boy Scouts Silver Beaver Award and a Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow. As a member of the Fulton County Car Club, he took pride in restoring and taking his vintage Chevy Corvairs to the local car shows and parades.
Albert was a proud supporter of his kids and grandkids’ activities, seldom missing an event or a game throughout their sports careers. He was also known for making doll furniture and toy boxes as Christmas presents for his great grandkids. If there was a project you needed help with around the house, he was there with tools at the ready to lend a helping hand.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make a donation in his memory to the charity of their choice.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 am to 12 noon Monday, August 7th at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a Funeral Service will follow at 12 noon.
Interment will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
