Obituary of Edward Smith

Mr. Edward Smith, 77, of Canajoharie passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at St Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Glens Falls on July 10, 1946 to Theron Smith and Blanch Flemming Smith. He attended local schools before bravely enlisting in the United States Army, serving his nation during the Vietnam War. Following his service Ed worked as a mechanic at a number of businesses around the country. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors, working with his hands, and he loved to watch wrestling as well as his old westerns.

Ed met the love of his life, Catherine Higgins, in 1982. They were united in marriage in 2010.

In addition to his wife Cathy, Ed is survived by his sons Eddie Smith of CA, Gordon (Tammie) Smith of TN, and Dwayne (Beth) Smith of Canajoharie, daughter Yvonne Riccobono of Schenectady. He also leaves behind his siblings: Lou, Halsey, Gert, and Jenny all of Glens Falls as well as Bill (Dale) of FL, and Donna of FL. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Peter Renaud, two infant siblings, as well as siblings Leland, Frank, Aca, and Melvina, and siblings-in-law Nancy, Irvin, and Tom.

A service will take place on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 1:30pm at Canajoharie Reformed Church. Burial will take place at a later date.
