Obituary of Emma Mae (Weakley) Wilson

 
Emma Mae Weakley, 92, of Amsterdam, NY passed away Friday July 7th, 2023, at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility.

Emma was born on November 1st, 1930, in Palatine, NY to the late Raymond and Katherine (Blakeslee) Weakley. She attended schools in Amsterdam and began working at the age of sixteen. 

Emma married the love of her life Andrew Lester Wilson on July 16th, 1949, in Mariaville, NY. They lived in Tribes Hill, NY and later Amsterdam and Fort Johnson. She worked at Mohawk Carpet Mills and then at the Pattersonville Thruway Rest Area as a waitress. After moving to Fultonville and wintering in Largo, Florida, Andrew and Emma made the decision to move to Florid permanently. Once there, she worked at Mass Brothers as a waitress.

After spending over fifty beautiful years together, Andrew passed away in 2000. Emma moved back to Tribes Hill, NY in 2003. After several years there, she lived at Hillcrest Assisted Living Facility from November 2019 until November 2023 then moved to Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility.

She is predeceased by her parents Raymond and Katherine Weakley; husband Andrew Wilson; brothers Gary, Richard, Eugene, & Roger Weakley; and sisters Olive Mergenthaler & Diane Jones. 

Emma leaves behind three daughters, Sandra (Joe) Knapik, Patricia (Paul) Newkirk, and Tamie (Richard) Adamowski; son Andrew (Rose) Wilson Jr.; brothers Raymond (Joyce) Weakley of Summerfield, FL, James Weakley of Mariaville, NY, David (Dee) Weakley of South Deerfield, MA; sisters Joan Czernis of Pattersonville, NY, Jeannette Swanker of Tribes Hill, NY, Geri Briggs of Malta, NY, and Judy (Gene) Yauchler of Largo, FL; grandchildren Jd (Stacey) Downing, Kenneth (Ashleigh) Newkirk, Michael (Michelle) Knapik, Craig (Rebecca) Newkirk, Timothy (Kate) Newkirk, Kayla Adamowski, Stephen (Katlin) Adamowski, and Andrew & Christine Wilson; great grandchildren Hailie & Derick Downing, Morgan and Jacob Knapik, Elliott & Abigail Newkirk, and Allison, Leah, Mary Kate Newkirk, & Carter Newkirk; as well as many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to sincerely thank all the staff at Hillcrest and Wilkinson for their excellent and passionate care for Emma. Also, a special thank you to Debbie, Sue, Marissa, Ellen, Maria, Beth, Julia, Krista, Kayla, Rebecca, Dr. Bryan, Brittany, Stephanie, Valerie, Nola, and Marie.

Emma leaves behind her wit and great sense of humor, and she will be remembered as the “Life of the Party.”

A service of remembrance will be held on Tuesday, July 11th, 2023, at 3:00pm at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Friends and family are invited and may call prior to the service from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Emma will be laid to rest with her husband Andrew at Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill, NY at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
