Obituary of Andre L. LaPorte

Andre L. LaPorte, 92, of Perth, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 29, 2023 following a brief illness with his family by his side.  Born in Keene, New Hampshire on May 6, 1931 he was one of twelve children of the late Antione and Marie Fortier LaPorte.

Andre and his brother Gerard owned and operated LaPorte Brother’s Home Improvement from 1954 until 1972.  Later that year, the two began a new business venture and opened, Northeastern Lamps & Bronze Corp.; Andre retired in 1995. He was a founding member of GAVAC, now Lake Valley EMS, The Johnstown Order of the Moose, and was a Knight of Columbus 3^rd Degree, Council 209.  Andre also loved hunting, fishing, playing cards; and most of all enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

On June 10, 1951, he was united in marriage to Helen May Hassfurter LaPorte.  Their union was blessed with 59 years of marriage until her passing on 2010.  He was also predeceased by his siblings, Eva LaPorte, Leo LaPorte, Cecil Hall, Joseph LaPorte, Phillip LaPorte, and Theresa Turley.

Survivors include one son, Andre LaPorte Jr. of Wilmington NC; three daughters, Shirley LaPorte of Raleigh, NC; Theresa LaPorte of Ballston Spa, NY; and Marie (Michael) Quiri of Perth, NY; five siblings, Gerard LaPorte, Sally Kreuczunas, Lucille Viscotti, Toni Lerew and Jeanette Brown; six grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; his longtime companion, Jeanne R. So; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, July 3, 2023 at 11:30a.m. at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church, 51 N. Pawling Street, Hagaman, NY with the Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis E.V. as celebrant.

Calling hours will be held Monday morning, prior to the Mass from 9:30a.m. until 11:00a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY. 

Private Entombment will take place in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville, NY.
