Obituary of Michele (Jaracz) Schoonmaker

Michele J. (Jaracz) Schoonmaker, 74,  of Fleming Island, Florida, passed away on June 9, 2023 after a long battle with cancer.

Michele was a native of Amsterdam, NY., where she graduated from Amsterdam High School. She studied at Delhi University in New York. 

During her career she worked as an Administrative Assistant for several years and then became a Real Estate Agent. She retired in 2002.

Michele liked to take group exercise classes at the local YMCA.  She played in several Mah Jongg groups and attended Bible Study classes at Sacred Heart Church.

Michele was very active in the Sacred Heart Parish. She taught Religious Education classes and Vacation Bible Study in the summer. She was a member of the Parish Council, was Eucharistic Minister, brought communion to the home bound, worked at the soup kitchen sponsored by the parish, and hosted several faith sharing groups.

Michele is survived by her husband David, son, Greg Schoonmaker of Omaha, NE., daughter,  Gwynn Schoonmaker Ison of Edgewater, MD., granddaughters Olivia and Audrey of Edgewater, and her sister, Geraldine DeNovio of Ft. Johnson, NY.    Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Services will be held at a later date and announced by the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY.    Interment will follow services in St. Casimir’s Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 1357, New York, NY 10018.  Please leave condolences online at www.brbsfuneral.com
