Obituary of Charlene Ann Lenig
Charlene Ann Lenig, 71, of Fort Johnson, NY passed away at home on June 18th, 2023, with her loving family by her side.
Charlene was born in Gloversville, NY on March 21st, 1952, to the late Larry and Dolores (Swartz) Ruslow. She grew up in Gloversville and graduated from Gloversville High School. She then went on to obtain an associate degree from Fulton Montgomery Community College and her bachelor’s from the University at Buffalo. While in school, Charlene met the love of her life Wayne Lenig. They were married on May 25th, 1974, and shared 49 wonderful years together before her passing.
After graduating, Charlene spent the rest of her life dedicating her time to the welfare of youth of New York State. She was employed as a social worker first through Montgomery County and later through New York State Children and Family services. As a volunteer she served as secretary of the Fort Johnson Youth Commission and as a member of the Montgomery County Youth Bureau.
Art was one of Charlene’s greatest passions. Her works included exceptional oil paintings, sketches and watercolors. Her interests extended to Native American and 18th century pottery. Along with her husband she taught many seminars on that subject at local museums. She also served as an officer for the Van Epps-Hartley Chapter of the NYS Archeological Association. Charlene was also an avid animal lover and saved five cats, bringing them into her home to love and care for.
She is predeceased by her parents Larry and Dolores Ruslow, as well as her grandmother Irene Ruslow who raised her.
Charlene is survived by her husband Wayne Lenig; son Charles J. (Kristen) Lenig; daughter Elizabeth (Ralph) Rossi; grandchildren Jasper and Zander Lenig, and Oriana and Novella Rossi; brother Larry Ruslow; half-sister Cynthia Lantz; aunt Barbara String; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited, and may call on Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
