Obituary of Gerald Robert Frisbie
Gerald Robert “Bob” Frisbie, 95, of Gloversville, NY, passed away on June 12, 2023, with his loving family by his side. Born in Hornell, NY, on November 27, 1927, he was the son of the late Purcell and Dorothy (Rowe) Frisbie.
Gerald graduated from Hornell High School in 1946. He then went on to Suny Geneseo in 1950 where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree after completing four years of study in three years under the accelerated program. Bob taught Special Education for three years in Johnstown, NY, before coming the Gloversville to become a Special Education Teacher for Ester Jr. High School. Bob also received his Master of Science Degree in Education in 1964 from the College of St. Rose, and he furthered his education by attending Suny Albany, Geneseo, Oneonta, The College of St. Rose and Colgate. Bob retired from Kingsborough Elementary School in 1986 after having taught for 36 years.
On June 29, 1959, Bob married Babette Davis from Kinderhook, NY, and they both shared 59 years together until her passing on May 24, 2013. Gerald and Babette have the distinction of having had the first house built in Queensboro Manor. Following his retirement from education, Bob and Babette owned and operated the Brickwood Antiques until their second retirement in 2007.
Bob was a member of Foothills Methodist Church and a previous active member of the former United Methodist Church in Bleecker Square in Gloversville and the former Johnstown United Methodist Church, having served in several positions and committees. Gerald was a life member of the Fulton County Historical Society and the Salisbury Historical Society having its headquarters in the Historical Frisbie House, He was a member of the NYS Retired Teachers, Fulton County Retired Teachers Association.
Bob is survived by his niece and nephew, and by many of his loyal friends Patricia and Richard Berger, Jan Sears, Heidi Atty, Erin and Martin McManus, Linda Anderson, Carol Gottung and his feline companion Scooter.
Besides his wife and his parents, Bob is predeceased by his sisters Elaine and Betty.
In accordance with Gerald’s wishes cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory in Schenectady. There will be no services.
