Obituary of Merle J. Yost, Sr.

Merle J. Yost Sr; age 84, of Gloversville, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2023 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville.

He was born January 10, 1939 in Mayfield NY and attended Mayfield Schools before entering the Army in 1957. He was married for 63 years to the love of his life, Marion Muddle Yost, on February 14, 1960. 

Merle was employed by various leather mills for many years and then was a medium equipment operator for the City of Gloversville Highway Dept. until retirement in 2002. He was a member of Foothills United Methodist Church and the Broadalbin American Legion Post #137. He loved playing pool and belonged to two pool leagues, where he qualified to go to the National (APA) Pool Tournament in Las Vegas. He also enjoyed taking car trips to any destination. He took pride in caring for his home and flowers. He also enjoyed scenic trips on his motorcycle scooter. The trip of his lifetime was in March of 2023 to Nashville, TN to the Grand Ole Opry. 

In addition to his wife, Marion, Merle is survived by four children, Merle J. Yost Jr; Mary Mosetti (Victor), Michelle Marshman (Jeffrey) and Michael Yost; seven grandchildren, Sara Butler, Jarrett Yost (Michele), Vicki Butler, Jennifer Butler, Rachael Green, Kiersten Marshman and Daniel Marshman; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three siblings, Leland Yost, John Yost (Pat) and Nancy Waffle; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur Sr. and Mildred (Sweet) Yost; siblings, Arthur Yost Jr; Robert Yost Sr; Larry Yost Sr; Harold Yost, Gerald Yost Sr; Betty Timmerman, Jean Whitehouse, Grace Thompson and Virginia Yost.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 12 noon to 2 pm Saturday, June 17th at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St, Gloversville, where a Funeral Service will follow at 2 pm with Pastor Cynthia VanAllen officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
