Obituary of Donald H. Brandow
Donald H. Brandow, 90, passed away May 26, 2023 peacefully with family by his side. He was born October 19th, 1932 in Albany, NY. Don grew up in a very joyful, full home on Whitehall Road with his grandmother, mother and eight aunts, uncles and cousins, he later lived many years on his farm in Selkirk, NY. He became a resident of Johnstown, NY two years ago to spend the final chapter of his life with Billy and Sandy Austin and the love of his life, Marion Cole Brandow who passed away six months ago. He spent the previous twenty-two years with Marion in their beautiful home he completed for them on the Goodnow Flow in Newcomb, NY, enjoying all the natural wonders and beauty of the majestic Adirondack Mountains.
He was an electrician for many years but was an entrepreneur at heart. Throughout his life he held a passion for carpentry, real estate, custom automobile builds, hunting, firearms and shooting, politics, his many special dogs, and deep sea fishing with friends in Mexico. However, the one constant love in his heart was his Harleys. Riding a motorcycle was a way of life for him. His desire to hear the sound of the engine and feel the wind on his face was second to none. Always ready to find that next great adventure wherever the road would take him, never tiring of the new places and wonderful people that awaited him along the way.
He is survived by sister, Jan “Sandy” Laning of Port St. Lucia, Fl and brother Richard “Wink” Sandler of Albany, NY as well as his step daughters, many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.
He was predeceased by his mother, Francis Nolan Sandler, his loving 1st wife, Gladys Brandow and his only son, Donald “Donnie” Brandow Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Don’s favorite charities; The Wounded Warrior Project and/or St. Jude’s Children’s’ Hospital.
