Obituary of Mary A. Lockhart

Mary A. Lockhart, 98, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023 at the River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam.

Born August 15, 1924 she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Emilie Wagner Rauschmayer.  She was a lifelong Amsterdam resident. Mary graduated from the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in the class of 1942.  During World War II she was employed at the General Electric Co in Schenectady as a stock record clerk. 

On August 26, 1945 she married John “Jake” Lockhart and was a homemaker.  They shared 53 years of happiness together. Her family enjoyed summers at their camp on Sacandaga Lake.  Mary and Jake also enjoyed trips to Florida, Vermont and Atlantic City.  A highlight of their travels was a train trip to Arizona on Amtrak. 

Mary was a communicant of the former St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church and currently of Historic St. Mary's Church both in Amsterdam.  

Mary was predeceased by her husband John who passed away on September 20, 1998, her son Jack who passed away on May 7, 2002 and her sister Martha who passed away on July 16, 1935.  

Mary enjoyed walking with her friends at the Amsterdam Mall and Auriesville Shrine.  She also loved to shop.  Mary played bocce for many years, the latest league being LaCucina in Port Jackson. One year she received an award for the most consistent bocce player.  Mary also was very fond of Angels and collected them throughout her life. 

She is survived by her dear and devoted daughter-in-law Gloria Lockhart, her dear lifelong friend Rita Parillo,  beloved friends Barbara Tomasik, Ed Krzysko and Lori Coulombe, one niece, several nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.  Additional survivors include her Godchildren Lisa Parillo Altieri, Warren (Tammy) Little and Christine Muscatello.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday May 24, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam NY.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday May 25, 2023 at  9:30 AM at Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main St, Amsterdam NY with The Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis E.V. as celebrant.   A Prayer Service will be held prior to Mass at 8:30 AM at the funeral home on Thursday.    Interment will follow the Mass in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY.
