Obituary of Harold A. Green, Jr.
Mr. Harold A. Green, Jr., 96, of Fairmount Avenue, Amsterdam, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at home, surrounded by his family.
A lifelong city resident, Harold was born on October 13, 1926 the son of the late Harold and Fern Engle Green Sr. Harold worked hard all of his life to ensure he always provided for his family. He was employed at both the Army Depot and Navy Depot retiring after many years. He then went to work with his sister Doris at Green’s Confectionary Store in Amsterdam until 2010.
Harold will be remembered for his sense of humor and his willingness to help others. Many will remember his several acts of kindness that he did for his neighbors, friends and family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was predeceased by his dear sister, Doris J. Green; and his granddaughter, Jennifer Luft; and lifelong friends, Walter Playford Sr., and Charlie Personeus.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Doris E. Frisch Green; two daughters, Kathy L. Luft and her husband Rod of Amsterdam, NY and Karen M. Lanzi and her husband Joseph of Hagaman, NY; four grandchildren, Christopher Luft, Giuseppi Lanzi and his wife Ashley, Gaetano Lanzi and his fiancé Cristiana Johnson and Giacamo Lanzi; two great granddaughters, Blakely and Lennyn; and two special nieces, Cheryl Green- Semmler and her husband Robert and Diane Rath and her husband Niles; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and special friend, Walter Playford, Jr.
A Service of Remembrance will take place on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 1p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY. A calling period will be held prior to the service beginning at 11a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the family plot at Fairview Cemetery, 272 Steadwell Avenue, Amsterdam, NY.
