Obituary of Anne M. Lomanto
Anne “Nancy” M. Lomanto passed away peacefully at age 91 on April 21, 2023 at John’s Creek Senior Living Care in Alpharetta, Georgia.
Nancy was born on November 18, 1931, in Albany, New York. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Rufus Butman and Anne Cahill Butman.
Nancy grew up in Albany with her parents and her older brother Thomas “Tim” Butman. As a young girl, Nancy was a tomboy and was always trying to keep up with her brother Tim. She attended elementary school at Saint Theresa’s and high school at Vincentian Institute in Albany. After schooling, Nancy went to work at New York Telephone where she became a supervisor and was one of the first employees to be trained on a computer, a skill she would later bring to “MaBell” in Gloversville.
Nancy met the love of her life Edward Lomanto, at Colgate University. They dated throughout his time at Colgate, service in the Korean War and Albany Law School. Nancy and Ed were married in 1957 and were married for 61 years. Nancy not only loved “Ed”, but she loved his family as they spent many wonderful times together
Nancy loved her family and friends dearly. Never judgmental, Nancy provided encouragement, congratulations, support, and guidance to the people in her life. Most of all, Nancy gave her family and friends the gifts of time and patience listening to successes and concerns.
Nancy’s close group of friends known as the “Lunch Ladies” described her as a genuinely kind and caring person.
Nancy was a wonderful cook who always prepared plenty of delicious food and always had enough for visitors that stopped by. She loved maintaining the tradition of passing down family recipes.
Nancy enjoyed being busy and learning new things. In addition to raising her four children and managing her household, Nancy was an avid seamstress, knitter and crocheter. Additionally, she worked at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School as a nurse’s aide. She also did clerical work in the school and church offices. With all of these responsibilities, Nancy even found time to learn to play the piano! Her dream of attending college came true when she enrolled at Fulton Montgomery Community College (FMCC) at age 47! At FMCC, she achieved a degree in accounting and was an outstanding student. Upon graduating from college, she worked at Perrella Gloves and for Ed’s law office.
Nancy was a committed volunteer and was involved with the Miss Fulton County Scholarship Program. She worked tirelessly to help raise scholarship money for young women. She was also a faithful and active member of the Church of the Holy Spirit where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and an Adoration guardian.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was predeceased by her husband Edward Lomanto and brother Thomas Butman.
Nancy is survived by her four daughters, Maria “Mary” Melucci (Jeffrey) of Fort Johnson, Judith Burke (David) of Alpharetta, Georgia, Anne (Michael) Johnson of Oviedo, Florida, and Louise (Steve) Scott of Alpharetta, Georgia, six grandchildren, Melissa Pickard (Josh), Lucas Melucci, Grace Burke, John “Jack” Burke, Sarah Johnson, and Stephen Johnson.
