Obituary of Dolores Hage

       Dolores “Dolly” Hage, 91, of Amsterdam, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital, with her loving family by her side.  She had resided at Hillcrest Spring Assisted Living Center for the last three years, where she was very social and called everyone her friend.

    Born in Gloversville, NY on June 4, 1931, the daughter of the late Paul and Jennie DiGiacomo.  She was a 1950 Graduate of Gloversville High School.   Dolores married Thomas Hage on November 2, 1952.  She moved with him to Amsterdam and they shared a wonderful life together there for 55 years. 

     Dolores was a strong woman, devoted to her family.  She was very proud of her two daughters and would talk about them to anyone who would listen.  One of the greatest joys of her life was being a grandmother and eventually a great-great-grandmother. 

     Friends and family will remember Dolores as friendly, funny, outgoing, and always welcoming.  She loved life and people.  Withing a few minutes of meeting them, she’d have a new friend.  She hosted countless parties and get-togethers at her home.  She loved to travel, do needlework, read, bake and she was very interested in history. 

     For 20 years, Dolores worked at Ward Products, manufacturing car antennas, later, she worked for a department store, The Carl Company.    She was a faithful communicant of Historic St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam.  Because her husband was injured in World War II, she also was a member of the Purple Heart Ladies Auxiliary, and the Disabled American Veterans.    In the former, she took on many different roles over the years, including President.  She was also a Girl Scout Troop Leader and for many years was an active member of the Mt. Carmel Seniors. 

     Dolores is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Adele and Joseph McDermott and RoseMary and Edward Cotugno;  her four grandchildren, Allison Lopez (James), Rachel Cotugno, Kristen McDermott (Piotr Banasiak), and Eddie Cotugno (Tia);  five great-grandchildren;  Brian Lopez, Thomasina Billington, Emma Lopez, Jaeden Cotugno, and Kyle Lopez;  and a recent great-great grandson, Jamir Prescott.  She is also survived by her brother, Vincent DiGiacomo (Marion) and many nieces and nephews.   She was predeceased by her husband Thomas, her infant daughter, Mary and her brothers, Louis DiGiacomo and Paul DiGiacomo Jr. 

   Dolores was a lover of animals and always had at least one cat or dog.  Her latest cat was “Little Eddie” and she often called him her baby.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery County SPCA, PO Box 484, Amsterdam, NY 12010  or the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave, Menands, NY 12204. 

    The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday April 27, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday April 28, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main St.,  Amsterdam with Father Martin Kordel as celebrant.  Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ft.
