Obituary of Herbert J. Unislawski

Herbert J. Unislawski, 86, of Gloversville passed away on April 17, 2023, with his loving family by his side. Born in Gloversville, NY on February 11, 1937, he was the son of the late Herman and Luise (Otto) Unislawski.

Herb is survived by his daughter, Erica (Ray) Peck, and the lights of his life who affectionately called him Opa, his grandchildren Veronica and Ryan Peck. He is also survived by cousins, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Herb is predeceased by his wife Cathy in 2011, his son Kevin in 2010, and his brothers Henry “Hank” in 1980 and Ralph in 2000.

Herb was a 1956 Graduate of Gloversville High School, and then went on to Cobleskill College, and proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963. Herb lived and worked in NYC for a few years, and then came back to Gloversville, where he then worked as a car salesman for Miller Ford. He met the love of his life, Catherine McKierman and they united in marriage on April 20, 1969. He was an electrician for many years, working for Davin Electric before starting his own business,  H&K Electric. Herb then went to work for Tryon Residential Center where he was a Youth Division Aide, retiring in 1999. In his spare time, Herb enjoyed cooking and baking, especially with the love of his life, Veronica. Every spring Herb would plant dozens of Flowers in front of the house for everybody to enjoy. As anybody who knew Herb always enjoyed an ice cold Spaten or Stella with friends and family in his “Meine Kleine Kneipe”. He loved to travel to Montreal every winter with his brother and friends and go to Tony’s where they were known as Tony’s Loud American Friends. The guys would also take in a Montreal Canadians game. Herb was a member of the Broadalbin American Legion and a former member of Concordia Singing Society.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday April 22, 2023, from 3 pm to 5 pm at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078, with a 5 pm Memorial Service with Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams, to follow at the Funeral Home
