Obituary of Judith F. Sook
Mrs. Judith F. Sook, 91, of Albany, passed away on Saturday April 15, 2023 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center in Albany following a brief illness.
Born in Troy, NY on September 6, 1931, the daughter of the late George and Caroline Palmer Frayne, Judith was a lifelong resident of the Capital District. She was a graduate of St. Agnes School and attended Connecticut College.
Judith raised her family in Loudonville, living there for nearly 60 years. She was a skillful and enthusiastic gardener, and won awards for her floral designs. Later in life, she enjoyed golf as a member of the Schuyler Meadows Club and was a 18-hole champion for several years. To everyone’s great surprise, one day she decided to become a Mets supporter.
She married Prescott Curtis Sook on November 29, 1952; he passed away in 2005. They shared a great fondness for travel, especially to Aruba in the winters and trips to Europe. Her home in Loudonville was the center for birthdays and holidays, with many generations and friends staying up late into the night to laugh and catch up.
Judith was a great lover of animals from her childhood pony, Nicky, to her many beloved British Shorthair cats. With her husband, she was a benefactor of and advocate for the Humane Society.
Her friends and family will remember her as an epic correspondent - sitting at her kitchen table, cigarette in hand, writing page after page on yellow legal pads to keep up with her cousins in Canada, friends abroad, grandchildren across the country, and many others.
Judith is survived by her three children, Katharine Parsons of Rochester, NY, Elizabeth Rossi of Loudonville, NY, and Caroline Dwyer of Shrewsbury, NJ. She was predeceased by her eldest daughter, Victoria Druschel in 2006.
Judith is also survived by her grandchildren, Julia Parsons, Elizabeth (Daniel) Sacks, Prescott (Carla) Rossi, Suzanne Rossi and Samuel Dwyer. Two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Samuel Sacks, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Funeral will be held on Thursday April 20, 2023 at 12:00 Noon at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 146 1st Street, Troy, NY 12180 with The Rev. Judith Malionek presiding. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Troy, NY. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave. Menands, NY 12204. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Please leave condolences online at www.brbsfuneral.com.
