Obituary of Haydee Olivera Rodriguez

Haydee Olivera Rodriguez, 68, passed away April 13^th, 2023, at Ellis Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on July 31^st, 1954, in San Germán, Puerto Rico to the late Victor Olivera Tirado and Maria Moserrate Rodriguez. In the early 1970’s, Haydee moved to New York. She resided in Amsterdam, where she was a knitter for Bojud Knitting Mills. Haydee was one of nine children. She spent her childhood in Puerto Rico and loved to revisit as an adult. One of her favorite places to visit was Iglesia Porta Coeli (Gateway to Heaven Church), one of the oldest churches on U.S. soil. Haydee continued her Catholic faith in Amsterdam and would always look forward to watching Arsenio Muniz’ service on Sunday mornings.

Haydee was well known for her big heart and huge sense of humor. She loved the simple things in life like her plants, and bonding with family over a cup of coffee. She was the cook of the family and loved to feed everyone. She loved being a grandmother more than anything. Haydee was the glue of her family. She was loved by so many and will be missed dearly.

Haydee was predeceased by her parents Victor and Maria; sisters Nancy Olivera Muniz and Raquel Rodriguez; and brothers Ferdinand Baez Rodriguez, Luis Olivera Rodriguez, and Gilberto Olivera Rodriguez.

She is survived by her children Roberto Gracia, Jose Gracia, Wanda Rosa, Jonathan Lugo, Haydeeliz Lugo, and Ryan Lugo; brothers Alfonso Olivera Rodriguez and Pablo Olivera Rodriguez; sister Carmen Olivera; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. The family has respected Haydee’s wishes, so there will be no services at this time. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
