Obituary of Mary L. White

Mary L. White, age 80, of Johnstown, New York, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2023 at River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam, New York. She was born on February 19, 1943 in Gloversville, New York. She is the daughter of Jesse George Lake Sr. and Marie (Bruce) Lake and sister to Anne Lake of Gloversville, New York. Mary attended Gloversville High School, and following graduation, she earned her Cosmetology license. She worked as a cosmetologist for many years until she started her own family.
 
Several years later, Mary returned to work at the Gloversville and Amsterdam Price Chopper in the bakery department. She was a caregiver, and made it a point to be involved in her children's extracurricular activities. Her children's friends and community members called her, "Mom White.”
 
Family always came first for Mary. She enjoyed going to Fonda Speedway to watch her brother race and loved to care for her 11 great danes, who were a big part of her family. However, Mary’s grandchildren were her world.
 
Mary was predeceased by her parents and her sister. She is survived by her children: Christine (Michael) Akowicz and John White; her siblings: Jesse (Sharol) George Lake Jr., Denton (Claudia) Lake, William (Jessie) Lake, and Henry Lake; her grandchildren: Mitchell Akowicz, Connor Akowicz, and Katelyn (Dakota Pike) Akowicz; her great-granddaughter Sophia Pike, and her many nieces and nephews.
 
Visitation will take place from 5 to 6 pm Saturday, April 29th at the Paul Nigra Center, 2736 State Highway 30, Gloversville, where a service will follow at 6 pm. A reception will follow the service.

Interment will privately take place at the convenience of Mary's immediate family.
