Obituary of Barbara H. Ford

Barbara H. Ford, 79, of Gloversville, New York, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2023 at home, with her loving family by her side. Barbara was born in Amsterdam, New York on February 21, 1944 to the late Leon and Regina (Sokalski) Lisicki. She attended local schools, and graduated in 1962.

In December 22, 1972 Barbara was united in marriage to Edwin Ford Sr, with whom she shared 25 wonderful years, until his passing on March 2, 1994. She was also preceded in passing by her daughters, Shanna and Lisa; her siblings, Mary Ann Carey, Leon Lisicki Jr., and Clara Metallo.

Barbara’s primary focus in her younger years was taking care of her family and maintaining her home. After Edwin’s passing, Barbara opened her home to those in need of childcare and started her own business, which she called Country Bear Daycare. She operated Country Bear Daycare for 10 years until retiring in 2009.

Throughout her life, Barbara had a great love for travel. For many summers, she would journey throughout the “lower 48” states by motorhome with Edwin and Sherri. She especially enjoyed the coastal states, and trips to the ocean. Barbara also enjoyed spending her time reading, and playing crosswords. Above all, her most enjoyable hobby in life had simply been being a grandmother. Barbara loved to spend her time with her Great Grandson Alex. They would have fun, telling stories and playing together, and would spend hours talking on the phone. Alex always put a smile on her face, and Barbara was so proud of him.

Her loving family includes her daughter, Sherri Ford; her grandchildren, Shanna Leigh Dufel and Ryan Dufel; her great-grandson, Alexander Harlan; her sisters, Marguerite Mason and Elizabeth Dylong; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held privately, at the convenience of the family. She will be laid to rest with Edwin in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Joseph’s Church in Broadalbin, PO Box 538, Broadalbin, NY 12025 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave, Gloversville, NY 12078.
