Obituary of Alyce M. Lanphere

Mrs. Alyce M. Lanphere, age 96, of Gloversville, New York, passed away on March 28, 2023 at the Fulton Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Gloversville.

She was born on June 5, 1926 in Gloversville, the daughter of Herman and Sylvia (Pettit) Lanphere. She attended Gloversville High School and continued her education with courses in Business Administration and Secretarial work. She later was employed as a librarian by the Gloversville Public Library, a position she held for 54 years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her work with the library, going so far as to volunteer with them following her retirement. One of the tasks she was instrumental in was barcoding the entire library catalogue, heading the team that did so. She also frequently contributed to the library newsletter, and was known for her wit and sense of humor.

Alyce is survived by her sister: Shirley Lanphere; and her nephew: Gregory Lanphere, as well as several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents: Herman S. and Sylvia B. (Pettit) Lanphere; her brothers: Herman Lanphere and Robert B. (Marilyn) Lanphere; as well as a nephew: Robert Michael Lanphere.

The Lanphere Family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00AM to 11:00AM, on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville where a Funeral Service will follow at 11:00AM with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. 

Interment will take place following the funeral service at Prospect Hill Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Gloversville Public Library 58 E. Fulton St. Gloversville, NY 12078.
