Obituary of Arthur C. DeGroot

Arthur C. DeGroot, 90, of Gloversville, New York, passed away on March 4, 2023, at the Nathan Littauer Nursing Home with his loving family by his side.  Born on December 18, 1932, in Granton, Wisconsin, he is the son of the late Harry and Olga (Krause) DeGroot. 

On June 5, 1954, Arthur was united in marriage to Edna Roy, it was a loving union that lasted 67 years until her passing on September 5, 2021.

Arthur is survived by his two children, Victoria (Dennis) Croft, and Robert (Joanne Korona) DeGroot; his brothers Felix DeGroot, and Edward DeGroot; his three grandchildren, Matthew Croft, Heather (Anthony) Hay, and Brandon DeGroot; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides his parents and his wife, Arthur is predeceased by his brother John DeGroot.

During his lifetime Arthur proudly served his country in the United States Marines from 1951 to 1954 serving in the Korean War for 3 years. Arthur worked for Gloversville Leather (Pan-Am), Mohawk Cabinets, and General Electric as a winder for 28 years.

Arthur also took pleasure in picking up his grandson, Matthew, early every Sunday for many years from Lexington. Over the years he welcomed and enjoyed countless animals on his mini farm from chickens to horses. In his later years he especially enjoyed taking care of the feral cats. Arthur was a great husband, father and grandfather, one and all were always welcome. His pavilion and home were a place that everyone enjoyed coming to, he was friendly to everyone, and refreshments were always available. Arthur enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, and walking in his woods. He will be greatly missed by all.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday March 18, 2023, from 12 noon to 2 pm at the Walrath & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078.
