Obituary of Frederick Coons

Frederick Coons, 85, formerly of Amsterdam passed away peacefully on Monday, February 13, 2023 at Wesley Community Nursing Home in Saratoga, New York. 

He was the son of Louis V. Coons and Ethel E. Wyman Coons. He was born on October 1937 and grew up in Amsterdam attending local schools. After high school he enlisted in the United States Army. 

He was married to Norma J. Rivenburg, his wife of 60 years, who passed away in May of 2022.  

Fred worked for a number of area companies including General Electric, Perth Lumber, he was Caretaker of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, and Hannaford Supermarket where he worked until his retirement. One of the greatest joys in his spare time was making wood toys to sell at craft shows.  

Fred is survived by his daughters; Barbara (Donna) Pawlowski, Cathleen (Joseph) Cieply and stepdaughters; Rebecca (Edward) Kercado, Donna "Peggy" (Richard) Rogers, and Linda (Anthony) Slezak. He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. 

A private service of remembrance will take place at the convenience of the family.
