Obituary of Leo J. Unger, Jr.

Leo J. "Sonny" Unger, Jr., age 89, of Gloversville, died peacefully on Tuesday morning, January 31, 2023 at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville.

He was born October 5, 1933 in Gloversville, the son of the Leo and Ethel (Walker) Unger. He was employed as a leather worker by Gem Footwear, Winig Slipper, F. Rulison and Son and lastly at Tic-Tac-Toe. He was of Catholic father and was a member of the former St. Francis DeSales Church, where attended grade school. Sonny enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a regular at Fonda Speedway. He always visited the homes of his siblings.

Leo is survived by three sister-in-law, Lucille Unger of Caroga Lake, Fran Unger of Georgia and Marlene Unger of Gloversville; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by all six of his siblings, Joan Thompson, Richard Unger, Lyda “Toot” Kadle, Alfred Unger, Alice Smith and Anthony "Butch" Unger.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
