Obituary of Shirley S. Galpin
Mrs. Shirley S. Galpin, age 96, of Mayfield, New York, passed on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville.
She was born on June 20, 1926 in Johnstown, the daughter of George and Gladys (Wright) Stewart. She graduated from Johnstown High School, class of 1944, and was later employed as a secretary by the Gloversville School District. She was a devout Methodist, and a member of the North Main Street United Methodist Church for many years. Shirley took pride in her community and spent her time volunteering for several organizations, including the Mayfield Historical Society, working as a secretary for Fulton County Mental Health for several years, and served as a member of the PTA for Columbia School. She also held a membership with the Johnstown Moose Lodge. She always made sure to take her daily walk, and enjoyed reading in her down time. She particularly loved travelling the country with her husband, Sidney, in their motor home. Mostly, she loved spending time with her family and friends.
Shirley is survived by her sons: David S. (Ginny) Galpin and Douglas C. (Cynthia) Galpin; her granddaughter: Chelsea (Richard) Tanner; and her great-grandsons: Duke and Declan Tanner.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years: Sidney B. Galpin; and her parents: George and Gladys Stewart.
The Galpin family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00AM to 12:00 Noon, February 15, 2023 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Jerry Oliver officiating.
Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda.
