Obituary of Filomena Volpe
Ms. Filomena "Fanny" Volpe, 99, of Fort Plain passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at St Johnsville Nursing Center with her loving family by her side, just 6 months short of her 100th birthday.
She was born on July 20, 1923 to Giuseppi Volpe and Josephina La Manna Volpe of Fort Plain.
Fanny attended local schools before becoming employed by Luxuray, where she quickly rose to Supervisor. She remained there for 60 years until her retirement in 2002.
Fanny loved her job, and in her spare time enjoyed cooking, especially for her family. She was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church and attended Mass as often as she could. She did not like to go to the Senior Center because, as she said, "I'm not old." She was an avid NY Yankees fan and loved rooting for them, but more than anything she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Fanny is survived by her sister Bridget Herb, nieces and nephews; Angelo (Bobbie Jo), Joey, Frank (JoAnn), Cindy, and Matthew, great nieces and nephews; Anthony (Becca) and Angie, one great-great nephew Vincent, as well as Richard (Nell), Julie, and Eric Euler.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Grace Bush, Angie Amatangelo, brother Rocco, and brother-in-law Charles Herb.
A Mass of Chrisitan Burial will take place on Monday, May 8, 2023 at 11:00AM at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, 115 Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY. Burial will follow in the Fort Plain Cemetery. All are invited to attend.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, Canajoharie.
