Della will be dearly missed! She loved her daughters and grandkids. When we lived in Abilene, I loved seeing her on walks with Jordyn and Kai and she was always happy and smiling. She was so proud of her daughters and their accomplishments. I remember Della sharing many of her world travels adventures that she had before. She was a bright light of joy and happiness.

Della had so many stories that she told me about her childhood. She talked about the stamps to get food and how she got to hold them while shopping. I especially enjoyed her stories of childhood when her family hid slaves in their pantry wall. She was a very impressive person with all of her accomplishments. She was always teaching the kids something when she came to visit y'all. Special memories for all those that shared her life.

I remember when i would come out to the house for a couple of hours to keep Della company she would ALWAYS have all these stories to tell me and she would tell me all the places she wanted us to travel and all the cool ideas she had. i also remember one day my mom brought me with her to bring Della a milkshake, man she sure did love it. she was the sweetest and i am so very thankful that i got to know her.

Dear Jaye and Della Laura's daughters and family,
We were saddened by the news of "Sugar's" death. It is hard to imagine someone as gifted as Della suffering from this disease that claims so many. I remember a very animated visit with her several years ago at the family homestead. So articulate and enthusiastic about her many travels. She was my first cousin on the paternal Evangelista side of the family.
She truly was a trailblazing female whose choice of occupation was ground-breaking for women of her era. Thank God for all the trailblazers that have come before and after her.
How proud she was of her two very accomplished daughters and their families. We are glad that she had the enjoyment of grandchildren enriching her later years.
