Obituary of Shirley Johnson
Mrs. Shirley Johnson, 73, of Broadalbin passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Palatine Nursing Home.
She was born in Amsterdam, NY on April 5, 1949 to Mr. Howard Austin and Mrs. Mary Hazzard Austin.
A lifelong area resident Shirley attended local schools before attending FMCC where she earned an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. She was a loving mother and homemaker. Always full of life, Shirley loved to sing and dance especially with her granddaughter Coryne who always had her up and dancing. She enjoyed baking and cooking, especially for friends and family. She loved hosting family gatherings and, more than anything, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Shirley was united in marriage to Mr. Roger Johnson on September 29, 1990. They spent 31 wonderful years together until his passing on March 4, 2022.
She is survived by her children; Kelly (Shawn) Leonard, Sherman Case, Eddy McCracken, Son-in-law Dan Snyder, grandchildren; Daniel, Kyle, Ariel, Maranda, Austin, Brady, Blake and Coryne as well as her great-grandchildren; Kyle, Brayden, Conner, Kaison, Levi and Corey. She also leaves behind numerous siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roger Johnson and her daughter Mary Snyder.
Shirley’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Palatine Nursing Home for the care they provided in Shirley’s final months.
A Service of Remembrance will take place on Friday, December 23, 2022 at 1:00PM at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010 with Rev. Cindy Leonard officiating. Calling hours will take place on Friday, December 23, 2022 from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger prior to the service. Burial will take place at Ferndale Cemetery immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the American Kidney Fund to help fight Polycystic Kidney Disease.
