Obituary of David G. Knudsen
David Glenn Knudsen, 77, of Cranesville, NY, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospital after a short bout with cancer with his loving wife continually by his side. Dave was born on November 10, 1945 to the late Everett E. and Ruth C. (Gallagher) Knudsen. He attended local schools and graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School with the class of 1963.
After high school, Dave continued his education at Fulton Montgomery Community College, where he obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering. While studying at FMCC, Dave played bass guitar as a side job with several local bands. Once he graduated from college, Dave pursued a career in computer sciences and obtained a position with the Burroughs Corporation, now known as UNISYS Corporation.
On June 1, 1974, Dave was united in marriage to the love of his life, Sandra E. Salton of Amsterdam. The pair have shared the past 48 years together.
After retiring in 2000, he partnered with his wife Sandy in a small business venture building rustic, Adirondack styled accessories and small furniture pieces – eventually creating Nature’s Novelties Rustics & Restoration, LLC. They sold their creations all over the Northeast and participated in many juried shows; particularly the prestigious show that is held each September at the Blue Mountain Museum in Blue Mountain Lake, NY. Besides building rustic pieces, Dave and Sandy also spent many years volunteering their time at Work Weekends held at the Great Camp Sagamore in Raquette Lake, and doing Adirondack rustic-style restoration work at “The Hedges,” another historic lodging camp located on the shores of Blue Mountain Lake. Dave’s restoration work eventually became widely known, and he extended his expertise and perfection to all facets of carpentry. Eventually, Dave earned a reputation as a local “handyman” and spent many years doing work around the community, and even helping some realtors – he was always “ready, willing and able”!
Besides enjoying spending time with his wife, and doing all types of outdoor activities, Dave was an avid hunter, enjoying his time trampling through the woods with his hunting accomplice John “Chipmonk” Shultis. He also enjoyed following NASCAR and Fonda Racetrack racing results, and attending every family gathering, and “catching-up” with his brothers, family, and friends.
Dave’s loving family includes his wife, Sandra E. Knudsen; brothers, Ronald (Alushia) Knudsen of Minaville, and Bruce (Nancy) Knudsen of Amsterdam; sisters-in-law, Christina Salton of Saratoga Springs, and Patricia Salton of Saratoga Springs; nieces, Elyse T. (Fernando) Rodriguez of Jericho, Long Island, NY, and Emily J. (Michael) Katz of Ballston Spa; nephews, Crien D. (Courtney) Salton of Ballston Spa, Rene E. Knudsen of Amsterdam, and Justin R. Knudsen of Schenectady; great-nieces and nephews, Jordan and Isabella Rodriguez, Maci and Caleb Salton, Sydney Knudsen, and Cedar and Josephine Katz; as well as several cousins and other relatives.
Aside from his parents, Everett and Ruth, Dave is also preceded in passing by his brother, Kevin J. Knudsen; his brother-in-law, David J. Salton; and by his sister-in-law, Victoria H. Salton.
Relatives and friends are invited, and may call on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 11:00AM until 1:00PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010, with a funeral service to follow calling time.
