Obituary of Marie L. Young
Mrs. Marie L. Young R.N., of McNeir Avenue, Amsterdam, NY died peacefully on Saturday, December 3rd, 2022 surrounded by her family. Born on January 8, 1957 she was the daughter of the late William and Patricia Schietromo Bush.
A lifelong area resident, Marie attended local schools and graduated from the former Bishop Scully High School. She then went on to graduate from SUNY FMCC with a degree in nursing. Marie worked as a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital and was a homemaker.
On May 8, 1981 she was united to Michael Young. Together, they filled their home on McNeir Avenue with love and laughter and had many wonderful years together, and raised a beautiful family. Marie was known as the “neighborhood mom.” She always made sure there was room for one more and called everyone dolly. She served as President of the St. Mary’s Institute Home School Association and was actively involved in her kids’ lives. She enjoyed traveling, camping, photography, and collecting Nippon China. Marie loved a good game of old maid or uno, and was famous for her macaroni salad, pierogies and Italian lemon drop cookies. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Michael; two children, Christopher Young and Lisa (Frank) Roylance; her five siblings, Margaret (Dave) Godden, Thomas (Kathie) Bush, Kathy (Mike) Andress, Patricia Bramer, and William (Nancy) Bush; and several nieces, nephews, cousins; and her grand puppy Dusty.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 10a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam, NY with The Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis E.V. as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
