Obituary of Mary C. Rose
Mary C. Rose, 80, a life-long resident of Fonda, New York, passed away peacefully, with her loving family at her side on December 1, 2022 at St. Mary's Hospital. Mary was born on June 11, 1942 to the late Harold S. and Marion C. (Bradley) Vrooman. She attended local schools, and was a graduate of Fonda-Fultonville High School.
Mary was employed for her entire career of over 30 years at the White Mop Wringer Factory in Fultonville, New York. She was a factory floor worker, and had been one of the last to leave the day the factory closed its doors, to be moved to Florida.
In September of 1967, Mary was united in marriage to Frederick Rose. The couple spent 32 years together, until his passing in March of 2000.
Throughout her life, Mary was a devout member of the Roman Catholic faith, and was most recently a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Amsterdam. Mary had a great affinity for animals, and adopted several dogs from local animal shelters over the years. She also enjoyed shopping, traveling, and maintaining her health as a member of TOPS Club and the Fulton County YMCA. She will always be remembered for her kind, and friendly nature. Anyone who met Mary was a friend for life.
Mary leaves behind her loving family, including her grandsons, Ken (Brandy) Rose and Stephen (Rebecca) Rose; daughter-in-law, Katherine (Raymond Mars) Rose-Mars; her brother, Harold S. (Kathleen) Vrooman Jr; her niece, Malia Vrooman; nephew, Harold S. (Laurie) Vrooman III; great-nephews, Erik and Kyle Horstmann; several great-grandchildren; her beloved canine companion, Miss Jackie; and several dear, life-long friends.
Aside from her parents, Harold and Marion, and her husband, Frederick, Mary is preceded in passing by her step-son, Frederick H. Rose; her siblings, Joseph Vrooman, Bertha White, Ellen Lavery, Bradley Vrooman, Max Carl Vrooman, and Jan Paul Vrooman; as well as her close friend, Albert Myers Jr..
Relatives and friends are invited, and may call on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 from 11:00AM until 12:00PM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow calling hours at noon, with the The Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis E.V. as celebrant. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, 296 Martin Road, Fonda, NY 12068, where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Frederick. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to the Montgomery County SPCA, P.O. Box 484, Amsterdam, NY 12010, or to a local animal shelter of your choice.
