Obituary of Ann Smrtic
Ann Smrtic, age 90, of Gloversville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Mountain Valley Hospice Home, Gloversville.
She was born August 17, 1932 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Bernard and Helen (Duschene) Been. She was a graduate of Gloversville High School and Potsdam Teacher's College. Ann proudly taught English for many years in the Gloversville School District. Upon her retirement she was a longtime volunteer for a local literacy group.
Ann is survived by four children, Mary Ellen Boucher (Dennis), Michael William Smrtic (Noelle), Mark Smrtic (Mary Beth) and Matthew Smrtic (Leslie); eight grandchildren, Emily Smrtic, Madison Smrtic, Carly Smrtic, Benjamin Smrtic, Megan Smrtic, Andrea Reynolds (Tyler), Matthew Smrtic and William Smrtic; a great-granddaughter, Anja Reynolds and a special sister-in-law, Philomena Been; as well as several nieces, nephews and many long-time friends.
Ann had fond memories of her trips to see her aunt in NYC, cookouts with Lynne and Don, caravans to Florida, “neighborhood” gatherings, Dinner out with friends and later her weekly dinner with her family at “Kingsboro”. The fact that Ann maintained lifelong friendships with Barb, Audie, Elise, Liz, Carolyn and many other friends is testament to the character she possessed. Her greatest joy was the 53 years she spent with “Bill or Dad” and the joy they obtained watching their children and then the grandchildren grow in young adults.
She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, William Smrtic and brothers Edmond and Bernard Been.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 am to 12 noon Friday, December 2nd at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 153 S. Main St., Gloversville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 noon with the Matthew Wetsel officiating.
